I've just stumbled upon a wealth of information about them recently and have traced my relations back a few more generations. Get in contact whenever you can. I can assure that the name is definitely spelled DEY, and appears in other documents with that spelling. The name may very well have come from someone with whom his family was familiar, but I have no way to prove that. At any rate the name, spelled DEY, has been carried down in the family since.Dorothy Kewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18159645921852490750noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3797778988120990970.post-29272911198045432222012-09-15T08:35:10.740-04:002012-09-15T08:35:10.740-04:00Thoroughly enjoyable reading. There are many Brits/Irish with the Surname Day, which led me to speculate that your grandfather may have been given a surname as a middle name. My maiden name is Edwards. My ex-husband wasn't for my having a double-barrel name. So I gave my first born son the middle name Edward, which coupled with the name Smith sounds like Edwards-Smith(smile). I have also come across instances in my father's family tree where the surname Knight was given as a first name, and the surname Chance has been used as a middle name for 3 successive generations. Pure speculation, but you could have an unknown branch of Days on your family tree! I traced a William Smedmore, a merchant seaman, from Swanage, Dorset, who, I thought might have been the mysterious father of my William, but could not make the connection. He seems to have settled in Waterford, so there may be a connection for you. If you read this and want to follow up, then email me!Dorothy Kewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18159645921852490750noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3797778988120990970.post-47899479360131901672011-10-27T17:19:10.615-04:002011-10-27T17:19:10.615-04:00Hi,
